what are A records

A Record (Address Record): An entry in your DNS table (zone file) that maps each domain name
(e.g. you.com) or sub domain (e.g. abc.you.com) to an IP Address. In other words,
the A record specifies the IP address to which the user would be sent for each domain name.
For example, you can have abc.you.com point to one IP address, and xyz.you.com
point to a different IP address.

A typical A record layout you may have is:

www A 212.67.202.241
forum A 212.67.202

Basically if your forum was located on a host server located at 212.67.202.29 when you typed into the browser http://forum.domain.com you would go to the forum on your hosted server, if your host has configured the
server for this

How do I log onto CPANELto CPANEL
To access your control panel you would have to type www.yourdomain.com/cpanel on the
address bar, then hit the enter button, once this is done you would see a pop up window
asking you to enter your control panel username and password you would enter it as it has
been provided by your webhosting company. For us at the bottom of your welcome mail.
Please they are case sensitive. You would have to enter them exactly as they are or you may
wish to simply copy and paste them in. If you have forgotten the password to your cpanel
you would have to send us a mail from your email address you have on file with us indicating
what new password you would like.

What are zone files

Zone file Definition: A file on a name server that designates a domain name with all of its associated sub domains, IP addresses, and mail server. Parts of the zone file include the A record, CNAME, and MX records. A zone file is also called a "DNS table".

using File Manager
Question: using File Manager

Answer: The File Manager Option within your Control Panel can prove to be a very
powerful feature. It will handle many of the functions that an FTP or Telnet
client will handle, all from within your browser. With the File Manager you can
set permissions, upload files from your hard drive, create and edit html files
and create subdirectories.

When you click on the File Manager feature inside your Control Panel,
you will find that the screen is divided into three frames.

The left frame will show you your directories and files:

The upper right hand frame is your action frame, and the lower right
hand frame is your trash folder:

Within each directory on the left frame, you will see links to create a
new file, create new folder, or upload files. These actions pertain
specifically to the directory that you are currently in. You will also
see a column of numbers to the right of each folder and file. The far
right column are the current permission settings for that specific
folder or file and the column to the left of the permissions is the
actual size of the that file or folder. When you click on the graphic
next to the text link for a folder, it will open that folder and display
the files and folders within that folder. When you click on the actual
text link for a folder or file, actions for that directory or file are
displayed in the upper right hand corner of your screen:

Locate your public_html folder and click on the text link for it. You
will see the actions for the folder appear in the upper right hand
corner of your screen:

Actions are pretty self-explanatory, so we'll forgo explaining what each
do.

However, if you will locate a file rather than a folder within your
directory listing and click on the text link of a file, you will see
that the action screen will change to the specific actions pertaining to
actual files and you will notice that the actions that you can perform
for files are quite different from those of a folder:

By clicking on Show File, a new window will open and show you what
the file actually looks like in your browser. By clicking on Edit File,
you will be taken to a window where you can actually edit the html code
within the file itself and save the changes. You can also change the
permissions for the file, or copy, move, delete, or rename.

Remember, DO NOT DELETE OR RENAME any files that the system creates.
Also, remember that

any files that you want available on the World Wide Web, must be placed
within your public_html folder

accessing your site
Normally you can access your site by just putting your domain name
in the address bar of your browser

http://your-domain-name
or
http://www.your-domain-name or www.your-domain-name

Can I upload via FTP and view my page before Propagation

No

CPanel no longer allows access to ftp using the IP. However you can still do this using other FTP programs such as smart ftp, ftppro, ftpcommander etc. You can also do this using the internet explorer or your browser by entering your ftp login as as been provided and replacing your domain name with the IP address of your domain.

Setting up Outlook to pop email

Cpanel's help guide to Email

http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cp/Mail.htm

What are my main account Email Settings
If your email address is me@your-domain-name, you would use the following info:

go to outlook express and click on TOOLS and then ACCOUNTS and we should be here

now press ADD and then MAIL and you should see this

now put your email address were the us@ukinternet.me.uk email address is
Format is  me@your-domain-name    ( i.e user@123.com)

now press next and you will get this

just put your email address in here too and press next again

Now put in you mail servers addresses in here

format

incoming pop 3: mail.main-domain-name  (example as shown, but use your main domain name)
outgoing SMTP: mail.main-domain-name  (example as shown, but use your main domain name)

now press NEXT again

put in your full email address and the password you setup with your email account
and tick the remember password box

now press NEXT and then FINNISH

CONFIGURING OUTLOOK EXPRESS

if you are having problems go to the TOOLS and ACCOUNTS again and click on the
mail tab at the top on the accounts box

click on the account you are have problems with and then on properties and this page will appear
now go to the servers tab at the top of the properties page

These settings are explained above, but it is the "Myserver Requires authorisation"
sometimes this needs to be ticked, and sometimes it does not, it can even just change sometimes

now just one other ting to check and that is the ADVANCED tab

your SMTP and POP3 server port settings should be as above

HERE ARE THE DETAILS CONDENSED

Username: me@your-domain-name    ( i.e user@123.com)
Password: yourpassword (This is the password you set when you added the pop account in your cpanel)

incoming pop 3: mail.main-domain-name
outgoing SMTP: mail.main-domain-name

What is the catch all email address
this is the account as above, this will catch all emails addressed to anyone@yourdomain.com
but not those that are sent to a setup address

I have added an extra email address to my account, but can't get it to work
Remember the account name must be in the yourname+domain-name format

Will I be able to send and receive e-mail through us?
Yes! You will be able to send and receive e-mail through our servers.
In technical terms, we provide both POP3 and SMTP capabilities.

What is the pop3 and SMTP addresses for emails on cPanel
incoming pop 3: mail.main-domain-name
outgoing SMTP: mail.main-domain-name
Remember that add-on domains use the main domains addresses
and don't have their own

I have an add-on domain and can't see how to set up the mail for it
With all add-on domains cPanel allows you to select each account by using
pull down menus in all the control panel setup windows

Why am I getting emails that don't belong to me
As the main account you will receive all the emails that are directed to your
domain name, but not to a specified address, i.e mrbrown@your-domian-name
if this email address is not setup in your email accounts it will be forwarded to
the main account address

I can't send mail using SMTP
Be sure to enable SMTP Authentication in your E-mail client or you may not be able to send mail.
If your e-mail client has trouble using a + sign in the login, you can use @, :, or % sign instead.

yourname+domain or use yourname@domain or yourname%domain

>>> PLEASE NOTE !!! We do not support the SMTP side of the mail server  <<<<

SMTP AUTHORISATION
But sometimes and even from now and then CPanel requires SMTP authorisation to be ticked
and sometimes to be un-ticked this does change sometimes for no apparent reason, we feel that
Cpanel themselves are trying to keep the servers secure

Setting a quota for email accounts
if you set an email account quota low, please be aware that as soon as it becomes full
it will not allow downloading of the email from the server, it will suspend the email account

Setting up Web mail

To add emails to your hosting package please once logged into your control panel do click on the mail icon its the first to the top left of your screen. Once you click on it in the new window that will open please click on the manage/add or remove account text link then in the new window please go to the bottom of the page where you will find add new account click on it and enter the username and password for the email address you wish to create and click on the create button. To read your web mails you may either go through the control panel using the same process as above and clicking on read Webmail by the side of the email account or you may use www.yourdomainname.com/webmail or to put a link on a button use the following and replace domainname with yours http://yourdomainname.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php this link would be for the squirrel mail option.

finally if you own the website then you might not really need this tip otherwise if you are designing for a client you may wish to add a link on the site from where they the owners of the site can check their mails you have three options to choose from the horde mail squirrel mail or roundcube place the link to the default home page of any of the default webmails on your site and you would be able to control the number of persons that have access to the control panel.

Online Web Mail clients

There are then 3 choices Horde, Roundcubewebmail and squirrel

WHAT IS Roundcube? click here for a google search for roundcube
roundcubemail is a web-based e-mail client that can be installed on any UNIX mail server that is also running a web server. It requires Perl 5, suidperl (included with Perl, or unneeded if you have secure suid script support in your UNIX kernel), and a current version of the CGI and MD5 Perl modules (included with most distributions).

WHAT IS HORDE ? http://www.horde.org/ <<< horde seems to be very buggy and often goes wrong
Welcome to the home of the Horde Project. Here, you can find the PHP-based Horde Application Framework and our suite of web applications using it, from the widely used webmail program IMP to the contact manager Turba, the calendar manager Kronolith, and many others.

What is SquirrelMail? http://www.squirrelmail.org/ click here for a google search for SquirrelMail
SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP4. It includes built-in pure PHP support
for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no JavaScript required)
for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure
and install. SquirrelMail has all the functionality you would want from an email client, including
strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation.
